16 Beauty Uses for Coconut Oil | Dolled Up Daily Blog

I’ve done posts in the past about beauty and life hacks with olive oil, baby powder, and like products that people seem to really enjoy. So this post seems a bit overdue.

Coconut oil has been something I make the point to keep around the house always, why? Because its uses, which I am only touching on a handful of beauty/life related, are so vast and its also affordable!

So heres a couple!

1. Cuticle Oil: put a small amount on your cuticles to soften them up and BONUS — it helps make manicures last longer.

2. Makeup Remover: Coconut oil can remove even the most stubborn of waterproof mascara. You can apply it directly to your face or with a cotton pad and the makeup will come right off. Make sure to cleanse properly after though!

3. Hair Mask: Though coconut is a solid normally, once it heats up to about 76 degrees (Fahrenheit) it becomes a liquid. In the shower you can hold the jar under warm water to melt it. Apply the mask by putting the oil in your hair after you shampoo, let it sit for five minutes, and then rinsing it out. Easy!

4. Deep Conditioner: An alternative to a hair mask, you can go even farther! You can use warm coconut oil before shampoo to sooth your hair. Leave it in your hair for at least an hour for ultimate moisture.

5. Dandruff Treatment: Another helpful hair hack for coconut oil to help eliminate dandruff and dry scalp, apply a small amount just at the roots and massage in very gently. This will moisturize and stimulate hair growth as well.

6. Itch Relief: Have a bug bite, burn, bump? These things can be soothed with just a little coconut oil.

7. Clean Makeup Brushes: Don’t forget to do this dolls! You can use CO to clean your makeup brushes, mix two parts antibacterial soap to one part CO and it’s a perfect mix! CO has antifungal benefits to it too, so it’ll help keep them clean in the long run.

8. Undereye Cream: We all know those under eye creams can cost some serious money some times. An easy way to save a but and still take care of those undereyes is to take a tiny dab, warm between your fingers so it softens up, and apply it gently to under eyes. Gently enough to use on your most delicate skin, and should melt right in!

9. Scar & Stretch-Mark Treatment: Using this can prevent stretch marks, so expectant mothers should keep this nearby! Also to treat scars, while it won’t fade marks, it can help prevent dark spots or other imperfections from happening.

10. Shaving Cream: Shaving cream doesn’t have to lather! This will also make your legs feel silky smooth after using it. There’s other recipes for DIY CO shaving cream if you’re not comfortable using it on its own.

11. Body Oil: Applying this after a hot shower and bath, then patting dry will leave you feeling moisturized, refreshed, and smelling delicious.

12. Frizz Fix: Take a small amount, warm up in hands and smooth from the from to mid shaft of hair will take care of those flyways. But be careful, it does add a ton of shine.

13. Lip Balm: Coconut oil is perfect to handle those dry lips. Take a little and apply it like any other lip balm.

14. Body Scrub: Mix 1/2 cup CO, a handful of coarse salt/sugar for an exfoliator. Will exfoliate and leave you feeling moisturized and smooth!

15. Massage Oil: You can warm the CO in the microwave (with caution!), add a drop or two of essential oil (like lavender), and you’re massage ready!

16. Tooth Whitening: Add a little baking soda to some CO and it’s a quick tooth whitening remedy.

BONUS Random Fact: Coconut oil also has a natural SPF 4.

You can find coconut oil at nearly every grocery store and many convenience stores, the prices vary depending on size and brand, but any will do for these tricks! If you are going to cook with it I recommend going to Extra Virgin and unrefined.

Well there it is, hopefully you guys found this both interesting and informative! There are many other beauty and non-beauty related uses for Coconut oil. Do you have a favorite use for this amazing versatile product? Let me know in the comments below!

Make-up Must Have - NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk || Dolled Up Daily Blog

Hey guys! Thanks for all your sweet comments on my last post, makes me smile every time. Glad I could share some picture of my special day with you guys.

Today I'm here to share with you one of the beauty items I always have in my makeup bag and use regularly. Has been a favorite of mine for years now so thought it was about time I share it with you.

This product is the NYX brand Jumbo Eye Pencil in the color Milk, a matte white color. It's a very versatile product. I love it because it is such a bright white color, stays on all day, and can be used for a variety of things. Can be blended out to add as much or little color as you'd like. So happy I found this product. Even better, it retails for only about $4.50! Definitely worth it in my opinion, just make sure you have a jumbo pencil sharpener.

Here is the pencil and above is the pencil blended out. My favorite way to blend it is just with my ring finger. Simple, fast, and most effective!

Here's a list of my favorite ways to use the pencil:

Eyeshadow - Product is made for your eyes, simply can be used as an eye shadow

Under Brow Highlight - Looks great as a under eye highlight when you're looking for a bright matte option when blended out, can also be used as a brow highlight base if you want to add shimmer on top.

White eyeliner - Use on the waterline to brighten your eyes and make them appear bigger, giving you that "doll eye" look a lot of people love.

Brighten inner corners - Apply to inner corners of eyes and blend out to make your eyes appear big and wide and add dimension. I do this almost daily and get compliments on it all the time!

Eyeshadow base - One of my favorite things about this pencil is how it is sticky and stays on all day, makes a great base for your eyeshadows

Lighten Lipsticks - Mix under or on top of lipsticks to brighten them up, creating a virtually new color!

I'm sure there are more ways to use it, let me know if you use this in additional ways!

I have more colors of these pencils, but I've only ever went through the milk pencil (with a handful of repurchases) though there is a great color selection. My second favorite would have to be strawberry milk which is a lightly shimmered light pink color which looks nice with my blue eyes and blonde hair.

Have you guys tried this pencil? How would you use it?

Thanks for reading dolls,
xo H

Playing Catch Up. Europe, Winter, Move, and More!

Posting again! Getting more frequent already huh :) Time to play catch up, and sorry for the crazy amount of images in this post. This is what I've been doing the last bit while I've been neglecting my poor blog!

Enjoying the sunshine in my favorite dress.

Surviving the forever winter also in Michigan lol.
Yes you weirdos here from reverse searching my steam or mmo forum pic I am bunnie. Now stop being creepy lol.
Moving to place where winters look like this. Ah. Love.

Traveled the world in this with some lovely people.  Got to take photography for a band and travel Europe. Once in a lifetime experience.
Traveling the world. This is in Vienna.
Berlin
 Rotterdam
 London
Tried authentic fish and chips. I can't say I liked it too much lol.
But I can say I loved this authentic Belgian waffle I enjoyed in Brussels.

Koln, Germany

Cardiff, UK

Bet you can guess where this was taken lol.

Seeing the Mona Lisa and all other wonderful art in the Lourve was breathtaking. Though, I am surprised it was so small!

I am so greatful for this trip. Meeting so many great people, spending it with a person I love dearly, and seeing things I never thought I'd be lucky enough to see. Ah. Truly amazing. I loved every second. Even though I can't say living on a bus with a 20-some stinky boys was always the most fun. Lol. Glad everyone was sweet and awesome. But I am glad to be back in the US and in my new home relaxing by the pool and having a stable job.

Life is so good.

What's the best vacation/adventure you guys have been on? Where's one place you need to go to?

Messy Hair For Summer | Dolled Up Daily Blog

My oh my, I am bad at blogging consistently. But what can I say, I always find myself coming back. :) To update old readers, I've recently graduated, moved across the country to the sunshine state, and got a job in the field I went to school for. Life is good. I sure can't complain about living by the beach either. Still trying to get used to the weather, but enjoying every second of sunshine.

I thought I'd return with a simple short post that inspires me and hope it does some of you too! Some relaxed summer easy styles I just love so much. One of my favorite things about the sunniest season  is that it's truly so relaxing. So shouldn't we look like we're enjoying the beach days and the sun rays?! I think so. From true messy buns to real beachy waves, I love all these looks and will be trying my own at some of them. What's your go to hair style for the summer?

Thanks for reading friends, I will write again soon. Looking forward to catching up on some of my favorite blogs and finding some new awesome ones too!

Moolan Luxury Snow Boots | Dolled Up Daily Blog

It's a little late in the season for snow boots I know I know, but there's still plenty of snow coming down where I live so I just had to share the boots I just received, sent to me by a lovely friend from Canada.

I'm not much for "Ugg style" boots besides for the comfort and amount of snow I deal with everyday for many months, but these I have really fallen in love with.

The brand is Moolan, I've never heard of it before. They're from a little Korean boutique in Montreal.

Sorry for the slightly dirty picture, I was too lazy to wash these off before I took pictures.

These are so warm, so lined, and very sturdy. The material is great to easily wipe off salt, which is great. High quality, much higher quality than my uggs themselves. I like the details and the colors. Goes with about everything.

I love them. From the little details, to the quality, to the comfort. Nothing to complain about with these.

If I ever need boots again, which I'm sure I will, I'll be looking for this brand. Best quality, and cutest snow boots I have ever owned.

Over the Knee | Dolled Up Daily Blog

I don't know about there, but here winter has clearly arrived. I am getting a little sick of all this snow already. But, I don't plan on letting the snow stop me from dressing how I want!

One thing I've seen a lot this season but never personally owned is over the knee boots. I've seen people rock them, but I've also seen some others not look quite their best in their pairs. The nightmare I have when thinking of over the knee boots, is looking like Julia Roberts in pretty woman. They may have worked for her, but that's not exactly the image I am going for.

But, there are a lot of celebrities I've seen wear this trend and look stunning. Blake Lively is a prime example, makes me fall in love with the style.

A few things I've noticed that help find the perfect OTK boots without giving off the pretty woman vibe is:

  • Stay away from pleather, especially shiny types.
  • Avoid super high heels
  • To be on the safe side get flats
  • Other colors besides black, like browns and other dark colors are a safe bet
  • Great to pair with tights and leggings
  • If going with black, suede is a great alternative to leather
  • Wear with conservative clothing, let the boots be the statement piece
I've been pining after a pair, think I'll need some for this season. What's your thought on these statement pieces?

Catching Up | Dolled Up Daily Blog

Hello my lovely readers, I've been MIA lately and I apologize for my lack of blog updates. On the bright side though, so much has been happening this summer and I can't wait to catch you all up. Heres a sweet and short post, with a few pictures to catch you up on a few things from the last month or so.

I got my first ever gel nails, loved the way they looked and not having to worry about them chipping or changing them for weeks. However they did a ton of damage to my nails, still months away from the damage growing out. Worth it price wise? Yes. But damage wise? No. Maybe someday I'll opt for these again, but definitely not a monthly thing.

Had a lovely trip to Chicago. How pretty is this? A gorgeous balcony with a wonderful view of the city.

Still loving these Prada sunnies I mentioned in one of my last posts. :)

Gotten obsessed with Earl Grey tea. Love love love. Chai tea lattes are my other morning weakness.

Found my new favorite nail color, Highlight of my Summer by China Glaze. So gorgeous!

And relaxed poolside in Florida.

What a fun and relaxing summer its been. I am a lucky girl. Working though, only a month left before I head back to university. Have to make the best of it!

Heading to Lollapalooza this weekend in Chicago!! So excited. Then off for a short trip to LA with a few of my girls. Then the Taylor Swift concert right after. Pinch me this can't be real. :)
