16 Beauty Uses for Coconut Oil | Dolled Up Daily Blog

I’ve done posts in the past about beauty and life hacks with olive oil, baby powder, and like products that people seem to really enjoy. So this post seems a bit overdue.

Coconut oil has been something I make the point to keep around the house always, why? Because its uses, which I am only touching on a handful of beauty/life related, are so vast and its also affordable!

So heres a couple!

1. Cuticle Oil: put a small amount on your cuticles to soften them up and BONUS — it helps make manicures last longer.

2. Makeup Remover: Coconut oil can remove even the most stubborn of waterproof mascara. You can apply it directly to your face or with a cotton pad and the makeup will come right off. Make sure to cleanse properly after though!

3. Hair Mask: Though coconut is a solid normally, once it heats up to about 76 degrees (Fahrenheit) it becomes a liquid. In the shower you can hold the jar under warm water to melt it. Apply the mask by putting the oil in your hair after you shampoo, let it sit for five minutes, and then rinsing it out. Easy!

4. Deep Conditioner: An alternative to a hair mask, you can go even farther! You can use warm coconut oil before shampoo to sooth your hair. Leave it in your hair for at least an hour for ultimate moisture.

5. Dandruff Treatment: Another helpful hair hack for coconut oil to help eliminate dandruff and dry scalp, apply a small amount just at the roots and massage in very gently. This will moisturize and stimulate hair growth as well.

6. Itch Relief: Have a bug bite, burn, bump? These things can be soothed with just a little coconut oil.

7. Clean Makeup Brushes: Don’t forget to do this dolls! You can use CO to clean your makeup brushes, mix two parts antibacterial soap to one part CO and it’s a perfect mix! CO has antifungal benefits to it too, so it’ll help keep them clean in the long run.

8. Undereye Cream: We all know those under eye creams can cost some serious money some times. An easy way to save a but and still take care of those undereyes is to take a tiny dab, warm between your fingers so it softens up, and apply it gently to under eyes. Gently enough to use on your most delicate skin, and should melt right in!

9. Scar & Stretch-Mark Treatment: Using this can prevent stretch marks, so expectant mothers should keep this nearby! Also to treat scars, while it won’t fade marks, it can help prevent dark spots or other imperfections from happening.

10. Shaving Cream: Shaving cream doesn’t have to lather! This will also make your legs feel silky smooth after using it. There’s other recipes for DIY CO shaving cream if you’re not comfortable using it on its own.

11. Body Oil: Applying this after a hot shower and bath, then patting dry will leave you feeling moisturized, refreshed, and smelling delicious.

12. Frizz Fix: Take a small amount, warm up in hands and smooth from the from to mid shaft of hair will take care of those flyways. But be careful, it does add a ton of shine.

13. Lip Balm: Coconut oil is perfect to handle those dry lips. Take a little and apply it like any other lip balm.

14. Body Scrub: Mix 1/2 cup CO, a handful of coarse salt/sugar for an exfoliator. Will exfoliate and leave you feeling moisturized and smooth!

15. Massage Oil: You can warm the CO in the microwave (with caution!), add a drop or two of essential oil (like lavender), and you’re massage ready!

16. Tooth Whitening: Add a little baking soda to some CO and it’s a quick tooth whitening remedy.

BONUS Random Fact: Coconut oil also has a natural SPF 4.

You can find coconut oil at nearly every grocery store and many convenience stores, the prices vary depending on size and brand, but any will do for these tricks! If you are going to cook with it I recommend going to Extra Virgin and unrefined.

Well there it is, hopefully you guys found this both interesting and informative! There are many other beauty and non-beauty related uses for Coconut oil. Do you have a favorite use for this amazing versatile product? Let me know in the comments below!
